Help with ¡Dale!

Here you’ll find answers to common questions. Something missing? Write to us at dale@sotosoft.es – in the app under Profile → Settings → About ¡Dale! → “Help & feedback”, which puts the app version in the subject line for you.

Trial and purchase

How does the trial work?

After the setup, start it with “Try free for 14 days” – no account, no payment details. For 14 days, everything is unlocked. The Today screen shows how many days are left; the end date is under Profile → Settings → Full version.

What happens when the trial ends?

The app then only shows the access screen. There you can buy the full version for a one-off €14.99, restore purchases, redeem a code and export a backup. Your progress stays.

Is the full version a subscription?

No. You pay once and keep it – on all your devices with the same Apple Account (Family Sharing included) or Google account. A purchase can’t be moved between iPhone and Android, because Apple and Google bill separately.

I’ve already bought it, but the app is locked.

Tap “Restore purchases” – on the access screen or under Profile → Settings → Full version. Your device needs to be signed in with the same Apple Account or Google account you bought it with.

How do I redeem a code?

Tap “Redeem code” (on the access screen or under Profile → Settings → Full version). The App Store or Google Play opens for redeeming. A redeemed code unlocks the full version for good.

How do I get a refund?

Refunds go through the store you bought from: for Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com, for Google via your Google Play order history.

Progress and devices

How do I move my progress to a new device?

On iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple Account, iCloud sync does it for you. Otherwise – for example from iPhone to Android – export a file under Profile → Settings → Your data → “Export backup” and import it on the new device: right at the first start with “I have a backup”, or later under “Import backup”.

What happens when I import a backup?

If there’s already progress on the device, the app asks: “Merge” adds the progress from the file without counting anything twice; “Replace” takes everything from the file, like moving house.

How does iCloud sync work?

If you’re signed in with your Apple Account and iCloud Drive is on, ¡Dale! keeps your progress in step between iPhone, iPad and Mac. You can turn it off under Profile → Settings → Your data → “iCloud sync”. Settings, the reminders and the purchase aren’t synced; there’s no sync on Android.

How do I delete my progress?

Under Profile → Settings → Your data → “Delete progress”. With iCloud sync, this also applies to your other Apple devices. Afterwards, the setup starts again.

Learning

How do I change the app language?

Under Profile → Settings → “What you’re learning”. Each option names the course and the language of the app, for example “Learn Spanish – App in English”. Your progress in each course stays.

Spanish from Spain or Latin America – where do I change that?

Under Profile → Settings → Learning → “Spanish from”. With Latin America, you’ll see the words and forms used there first.

How do I change my daily goal or the reminders?

Under Profile → Settings: for the daily goal, choose Relaxed, Regular or Intense (about 5, 10 or 20 minutes a day). Under “Reminders”, turn them on or off, choose the time (or “Automatic”, based on when you usually practise) and which kinds you get.

When does ¡Dale! remind me?

Only on days you haven’t practised yet – at your chosen time, or automatically half an hour after the time you usually practise. In the evening there’s at most the streak saver, if your streak would otherwise end at midnight. If you take a break, ¡Dale! gets in touch less and less, and after 30 days not at all until you open the app again. The word of the day and the weekly recap arrive quietly, without a sound.

How do I move up a level?

Once you’ve completed all stops of a level, you move up. If you already know a level, take the level test: on the Today screen or in your profile, tap “Your level”, then “Already know A1?” (with your current level). You need 12 out of 15 questions right.

The pronunciation sounds robotic.

¡Dale! uses the voices on your device and automatically picks the best one installed. Voices marked “Premium” or “Enhanced” sound far more natural. You can download them for free on iPhone under Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → Spanish; on Android, in the text-to-speech settings. In ¡Dale!, go to Settings → Read aloud → Voice to choose a particular voice and hear it first.

The pronunciation is too fast for me.

Under Settings → Read aloud you can set the speaking speed: Slow, Normal or Natural. “Play slowly” (the tortoise) is always slower still.
